New Bikes at Coco's: Double Grape Soda with a Tiny Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream

For those new to road bikes, looking at bicycle photos online can be deceiving as they all appear to be about the same size. How do you tell at a glance if it is, broadly, a big or small bike? Look at the head tube. That is the frame tube that holds the fork. (Editor's note: originally when I posted this, I said steerer tube, which I knew was wrong when I was writing it. The steerer tube is on the fork itself. Thanks, Matt for point out!) In between the forks and the handlebars, that mostly vertical tube is a rough indicator of frame size. Click Double Grape Soda photo above and check out the relative size difference of the two bicycles.

This is a consignment bike from Jesse. He assembled it in his spare time and it was constructed according to Coco's lofty refurb standards.

59cm Trek aluminum 1420 frame was stripped and rebuilt. Frame is made in USA - how is that for a rarity? Nice quality mixed Shimano group. 105 hubs, brake calipers. New tires, new tubes, new brake cables, new brake pads, new brake cable housing, new gear cables, new gear cable housing, new stem and new bar tape. A very nice, 'bike store' quality bicycle. Tuned and ready. Needs nothing. $375.

Do we take consignment bikes? Only if it is from a trusted source and the bike is perfectly refurbished.

This diminutive Miyata road bike is one of the smallest that we have ever had. The frame on this Miyata measures a twee 45cm, but rides even smaller as it is mounted on 650 wheels instead of the standard 700 wheels. This is small, like the tiny Motobecane (sold) that appeared at Andy's pop-up shop at South Willard.

Stripped and rebuilt. Shimano component group. New pedals, new saddle, new bar tape, new tires, new tubes, new brake cables, new brake pads, new brake cable housing, new gear cables and new gear cable housing. High quality Japanese road bike. Super, super rare size. Tuned and ready. Needs nothing. $400

Lugged Centurion 47cm road bike. Stripped to frame and rebuilt.

Tuned and ready. Needs nothing. Stripped and rebuilt. Shimano Exage component group except the brake levers. Brand new alloy wheels with Shimano hubs. New pedals, new saddle, new bar tape, new tires, new tubes, new brake cables, new brake pads, new brake handles, new brake cable housing, new gear cables and new gear cable housing. High quality Japanese road bike. A little taller than the grape Miyata and a slightly less rare size. Tuned and ready. Needs nothing. $400.

So, check it, a double grape soda and a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream.
